My Year Round Women’s Wardrobe Essentials

In the day and age of fast fashion, and the inevitable pressures we may feel from society to keep up with current trends, it is refreshing when you don’t have to worry about whether or not what you are wearing is “in” or not. While my wardrobe personally may get a makeover or at least a few new additions every season, the core of it is filled with essential garments that I can wear at anytime of the year, almost. Personally, I centre my choices around neutral shades such as black, white and grey, as these can look good during any season. Here is a look into my year-round wardrobe essentials.

A light cardigan

Growing up I would have never thought a grey cardigan would be part of my wardrobe essentials, especially because it was part of my school uniform as a child, but as I got older, being more discerning about materials and colours meant that I could appreciate them better. Cool summer nights sometimes call for a light top, and a cardigan is perfect in that it doesn’t cover as much as a sweater, and can be buttoned up or left open. Conversely, during winter, a light cardigan allows for the option to layer a shirt underneath and a jacket on top.

A light raincoat

Just like a light cardigan, a raincoat is not reserved for wet weather. In fact, a light raincoat can be worn year round, mainly at different times of the day. Again, neutral shades such as black and grey go really well with many types of outfits, and there are surprisingly many options when it comes to raincoats for women. No longer are you confined to jackets made by outdoor brands with designs that look like they have that purpose, but now many fashionable brands such as Rains create great looking, functional coats.

Slim fit jeans

Slim fit jeans look great no matter what time of the year they are worn, and you can never go wrong with blue jeans. Their versatility as well as comfort mean they should be one of the first items found in a woman’s wardrobe. Jeans are also one of the few items that tend to get better with age as they are worn in and begin to fade, with each pair looking unique depending on the person wearing them. This only adds to the longevity, and honestly, slim cut has been in style for the past decade and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon.

A black dress

This is pretty much a guaranteed staple for any woman’s wardrobe, and is perfect for evening events no matter what time of year it is. Black dresses are also versatile in that you could wear different types of shoes with them and layers on top, while still retaining it’s classy look.
